How I (Mokichi) Discovered Mikezaki

I first came across Mikezaki at “Ninketto,” a real-life event hosted by NinjaDAO. I bought an original CoolGirl sticker being sold at the venue, and that’s when I learned it was illustrated by Mikezaki ✨

She also created the icon for warazo (@wara0315), a piece from the WAFUKU fan-art auction. When it comes to blending chibi characters with animal ears (kemomimi), no one does it quite like Mikezaki ✨

She also served as an official NFT creator for WAFUKU GEN — one of my all-time favorites — illustrating “Flow WAFUKU feat. Mikezaki,” an NFT available at trading-card vending machines across Japan. Cat ears × chibi style × traditional Japanese clothing. The result is an irresistibly cute illustration that any cat-ear fan simply must see 🐾

Life as a “Homemaker Creator”

Mikezaki juggles the demands of raising children and part-time work, yet her passion as a creator never fades. Tending a home garden, planting rice, nurturing a medaka (killifish) biotope… Her calm, nature-filled daily life — rooted in deep love for her family — may well be the source of the warmth woven into every illustration she draws 🌿

An Exceptional Track Record in Chibi Art

Mikezaki began her NFT journey in February 2022. Her total sales volume has reached an impressive 16 ETH. Her fan-art derivative collection based on the hugely popular CoolGirlNFT project — “CHIBI CoolGirl.” (chibi cool girl) — is known throughout the community. These one-of-a-kind chibi versions of Cool Girl characters are adored by holders for being simply too cute to resist.ています。

The Heart Behind the Fan Art

Mikezaki’s CoolGirl fan art carries a meaningful message — one she received from the original works herself: the courage to take a step forward.

“Holding back, being reserved, running away because of what others think. Feeling dissatisfied with the present but unable to act. That’s on my own negative mindset. After all, I can only be myself.”

The gaze of a CoolGirl walking her own path told her, “If you don’t move now, you’ll regret it.”

With a spirit of deep respect — and the belief that “I should trust myself and take action” — Mikezaki continues to create fan art for projects including WAFUKU GEN, CryptoNinja, Kimono Girl, and MEGAMI.

Mikezaki’s newest series, “Blooming Brush,” explores a world where delicacy and strength coexist — a departure from her signature chibi style.

Mikezaki describes the collection as a direct expression of her own growth:

Perhaps still a work in progress, but each piece holds the very best I could offer at that moment in time — a record of growth.

Mikezaki’s avatar is the adorable “Nekozaki-chan.” From cool and edgy to soft and gentle, her X (Twitter) feed is filled with Nekozaki in an ever-changing range of art styles. She even has a fully fleshed-out character profile!

Nekozaki-chan’s Profile:

A former yokai nekomata (two-tailed demon cat), now deified.
Halftone-patterned hair with a signature ahoge (antenna strand).
Two piercings in her left ear.
Rounded “maro” eyebrows; slanted, sharp eyes.
Blends naturally into groups without anyone noticing. Loves to sing.

One thing that always catches my eye on her X feed is Mikezaki’s pasta cooking! Every dish looks absolutely delicious, and her impressive repertoire of seasonal vegetable-based recipes never ceases to amaze me. I secretly dream of being invited to taste her home cooking someday — the quality is that good 👀
